What we'll measure

Objective testing, organized by system

Your symptoms are real, and many of the systems behind them can be measured. Testing tells us where to focus, gives us a baseline, and lets us check objectively whether care is working.

The systems we assess

Not every test is right for every person. We choose based on your history and what you can comfortably tolerate.

  • Eye movements & visual function

Video-based eye tracking of smooth pursuit, quick eye jumps (saccades), fixation, convergence for near work and eye stability during head movement.

  • Vestibular & inner-ear function

Positional tests, head-movement reflex tests and gaze-stability measures that show how each balance organ and the brain are working together.

  • Balance, posture & gait

Computerized balance testing as visual and surface conditions change, walking tests, and balance while thinking at the same time.

  • Autonomic response

Heart rate and blood pressure from lying to standing over several minutes, paced-breathing heart-rate variability, and graded exertion tolerance when appropriate.

  • Cognition & processing

Reaction time, processing speed, attention and working memory, alone and combined with movement or visual challenges.

  • Comprehensive neurological exam

A hands-on exam of reflexes, coordination, sensation, strength and cranial nerve function.

  • Symptoms & daily function

Validated questionnaires for dizziness, headache, concussion and autonomic symptoms, so change can be tracked over time.

  • Records & prior testing

A careful review of your imaging, labs and specialist reports so we don't repeat what has already been done.

Why measure?

  • To find the driver. Two people with the same diagnosis can have very different underlying problems.
  • To dose care safely. Knowing your thresholds helps us challenge your nervous system without overwhelming it.
  • To track progress honestly. Re-testing shows what has changed, beyond how you feel on a given day.
  • To communicate clearly. Objective findings make updates to your physicians specific and useful.

What testing is like

Evaluation days are unhurried. Some tests may briefly provoke symptoms, so we build in rest breaks, keep lighting and noise low, and pause whenever you need. You're welcome to bring a support person.

What testing is not

Our assessments guide rehabilitation. They don't replace medical diagnosis, imaging or specialist evaluation. If we find anything that needs medical attention, we'll tell you and help you get to the right physician. Specific equipment will be confirmed before opening.
